It was refreshing to connect with Deborah during my first 1on1 she provided me with a strategy to increase retirement funds. I have changed by growing my confidence and knowledge regarding my short and long term wealth goals. I am conscious of large and small methods to increase my net-worth such as cutting down expenses etc. I have accomplished "finding my voice" to speak directly to the individual that is managing my portfolio and asking direct questions about low performing funds, suggestions for stock investments etc.

I am a new member of the Wealthy U society, cohort 7. I was not knowledgeable about crucial details regarding my employer's retirement plan and mutual funds. I didn't know what I didn't know. Dr. Deborah's advice was life-changing and I am currently implementing the invaluable advice given. I plan to follow Dr. Owens' advice by increasing my retirement contributions to 10% in six months and develop my tutorial business to use the additional income towards future investments. I have never had a portfolio, but with her guidance, I am well on my way to developing my portfolio and I will be one of the million Black women with a net worth of more than 1 million dollars. I feel like I started out slow and gained momentum towards the end. This experience expanded my thinking about what I could do and use money. I was a saver but never thought in in terms of building wealth or being financially wealthy. I operated from a place of fear and not having enough. I feel much more confident about making financial decisions. The coaching reinforced things I have wanted to do for years.

I have to say that I was initially hesitant about taking this course because I’m not a numbers person and I find the stock market to be incredibly overwhelming. However, my initial call with Deborah was like talking with an old friend! She was bright, personable, transparent and most importantly, relatable. Deborah was so generous with the wealth of information she shared in such a short amount of time. She was able to listen to the complete picture, synthesize the problem, make quick calculations and assess my situation. She said I want you to eliminate debt first and I really appreciated this. This showed me she cared amount my situation first. I was finally able to fill out my paperwork on how much I should contribute to thrift and how much of my funds to devote to paying down debt. Deborah has incredible insight about how to approach investing, and she delivers it in a way that is actionable and understandable. What I appreciated most, was the ease in speaking with her. She is absolutely someone with whom I look forward to work for a long time.

I am so glad I decided to invest in myself. I had a Stash account when I started the program, but did not know if had picked good ETFs or individual stocks. I learned how to research stocks, listen to analysts, and when to sell. The coaching also showed me how much I was holding myself back. At the time I was renting a house. Debra gave me a homework assignment to go look at inventory and see how much a mortgage would be. To my surprise I would pay less for a mortgage than I am for rent. She also put me in touch with a fantastic loan officer and six weeks later i was in my own home. For six years I had told myself I could not afford a home. Without that nudge, I would still be renting. I encourage anyone who wants to secure their future to sign up for coaching.

I would sum up my experience as very educational and demanding experience. This experience takes a lot of dedication within one self and a lot of focus and self control. Just learning the basics on how to research mutual and stocks made this experience worth while. I have always been a saver, but learning where to put my money so that it can earn more was worth the sacrifice. If I had to do it all over again, I would not think about it twice. I plan on restarting the whole personal assignments over again to make sure that there was not anything that I missed the first time. This was well worth it. Deborah gave me food for thought about my retirement goals. I got long term insurance, paid down my debts and contnued to fund my 401k. I started with covered and took my profits to create long term strategy. One of my goals was to create an additional stream of income. I began to write my memoir and found my passion was gardening.
